They are considered to be in danger of extinction (according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature): their population could not exceed 2500 individuals in the wild!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are threatened mainly by habitat degradation, fragmentation and disappearance, caused by grazing, agriculture, logging, global warming and natural disasters such as cyclones and floods. But red pandas are also victims of traps set for other species and poaching (for their fur and other parts of their body, used in Traditional Medicine). Finally, they are more and more captured alive, then resold as &#8220;pets&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Red Panda Network is working in Nepal, developing a conservation model involving local people, so that they too can benefit from these actions.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is how the &#8220;guardians of the forest&#8221; program was set up. These villagers, who have received specific training, are employed by the RPN to monitor and protect the forest and the red pandas. They thus become ambassadors for this species, raising awareness in their community about its protection.
