The AFdPZ – French Association of Zoological Parks<\/a> rewards the Barben zoo for its energy focused on the conservation of biodiversity ??Each year, the Barben Zoo provides financial support to 13 conservation programmes and relays their actions to the public. This support is made possible thanks to visitor admissions, snack receipts, sales from the zoo shop and donations collected by the Ecofaune association created by the zoo. We are proud of this trophy which also rewards the daily work of the entire animal and technical team of the zoo? <\/p>\n\n

The AFdPZ brings together about a hundred members around three missions of general interest: conservation, education and research. By being a member of this association, the Barben Zoo participates in a common desire to work for the conservation of biodiversity and animal welfare. The AFdPZ’s actions concern “ex situ” (outside the natural environment) and “in situ” (in the natural environment) conservation around the world. All its members are also responsible for raising public awareness of current ecological issues such as deforestation, palm oil cultivation, coltan extraction and animal trafficking. <\/p>\n\n

Each year:<\/p>\n\n

– The 20 million visitors to French zoological parks contribute to donating 2.5 million in financial aid to biodiversity conservation and research<\/p>\n\n

– 20 million visits is also as many people made aware of nature protection<\/p>\n\n

The AFdPZ is a member, among others, of the EAZA<\/a> (European Association of Zoos and Aquariums) which increases the collaboration of zoological establishments at the European level. Among her missions, she supervises the European Breeding Programs (EEP) which supervise and coordinate the protection of particularly endangered species (tiger, fennec, tapir, white rhinoceros, etc.). 296 members from 34 countries contributed \u20ac22 million to conservation programmes this year!<\/p>\n\n

This sum makes zoological parks key contributors to the conservation of biodiversity in the world.<\/p>\n\n
