The glider of the Pyrenees

The griffon vulture hovers high in the sky, looking for carrion, a dead animal. Gregarious, it lives in colonies, settled on cliffs; it is there that it builds its nest. It plays a major health role: by cleaning carrion, it prevents the proliferation of diseases!
However, this species almost disappeared from France: in 1960 there were only about twenty pairs left in the Pyrenees! Thanks to protection measures and reintroduction programs, there were 2500 griffon vultures in France in 2019!

You will discover our griffon vultures by entering the large aviary that they share with African vultures… as well as during the presentation of birds in flight!
