Maned wolf – Sou amigo do lobo

Thelogo ami du loup maned wolves live in the grasslands and savannahs of South America. It is estimated that there are 17,000 left in the wild… The reasons for this scarcity are hunting (for meat and sport), persecution and above all the disappearance of their living spaces. In Brazil, as in the other South American countries where they live, natural areas are destroyed for cattle breeding or the cultivation of sugar cane and corn, often destined for export to Europe. Roads cross their territory, causing the death of 50% of the young, and domestic dogs transmit diseases to them. This is why various organizations, united within the program “Sou amigo do lobo – I am the friend of the wolf” are mobilizing for the protection of this species:
  • working with farmers to develop practices that allow cohabitation with maned wolves
  • study of animal movements and safety of the most dangerous roads
  • Orphaned wolf pups, breeding and reintroduction
  • Care for Sick Maned Wolves
