The lion is the only feline to live in a group, called a troop, composed of a male, 2 to 6 females and their young. Each has a specific role: the females hunt and take care of the young, while the male defends the territory and the group. Fights between males to take control of a group of females are violent, even deadly! Females usually give birth at the same time, allowing the young to be reared together.
Lions are becoming rare, threatened by persecution and the disappearance of their habitat and prey.

At the La Barben animal park, there is a male and a female. They have relatively kept the rhythm of African life and are rather active at the beginning and end of the day, avoiding getting tired at the hottest hours!
