We are pleased to announce the birth of a female giraffe on January 15th, after 15 months of gestation. She is now enjoying the outdoors, after spending 4 weeks in the warmth. Even if she is living her first days in her vast space, there is no question of moving too far from Hadiza, her mother!
The giraffe is classified as “vulnerable” by the IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature. At the La Barben Animal Park, we welcome Kordofan giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis antiquorum) which are part of the 4 species of Giraffe now recognized (Northern Giraffe). Its conservation in zoological parks is governed by a European Breeding Programme. We are very happy to welcome this beautiful birth, which is all the more precious in the context of an EEP!
