A baby tapir!

We are pleased to announce the first calf of our female tapir “Cayenne”!
This little female was born on July 10, and has the characteristic striped coat of baby tapirs: this is a camouflage, like fawns which are spotted.
In full health, the little one greedily sucks its mother’s milk, but already tastes the alfalfa and other vegetables on which she feeds!

For the moment it is not very visible, but very soon you should be able to discover it in the outdoor park!

This birth is very good news for our tapirs, but also for the entire species: tapirs are indeed threatened by hunting and deforestation. This is why zoos in Europe have set up a European Breeding Program, which allows them to manage their reproduction in the best possible way.
