America’s Largest Bird!

Belonging to the ostrich family, the rhea is, like her, unable to fly. On the other hand, its long legs allow it to run up to 60 km/h! The male seduces a group of 2 to 12 females, but it is on his own that he takes care of incubating the 10 to 30 eggs laid and then the young!

At the La Barben animal park, rheas cohabit with anteaters, and in 2019 they successfully raised 3 cubs!
