Varecia variegata variegata
These endearing lemurs can be recognized by their particularly dense coat, with asymmetrical black and white spots. They live in the tall trees of the forests of Madagascar, in small groups of 2 to 5 individuals. There they find the fruits on which they feed, and build a nest where the female will give birth to several young.
They are threatened by heavy deforestation, but also by capture and hunting for meat and fur; This species is critically endangered.
As part of the EEP (European Breeding Programs), our park welcomes a group of varied males, in order to allow other parks to have reproduction in this species. You can observe them in the large aviary that they share with the catta makis… and perhaps hear their loud cry!
