Blue-throated Macaw – Armonia
Emblematic of eastern Bolivia, the blue-throated macaws are critically endangered: there are only 450 individuals of this species left in the wild!
This is why the Armonia association created the “Barba Azul” Nature Reserve in 2008, in order to act for the protection of these birds but also of the fauna and flora of Bolivia: maned wolves, tapirs, anteaters…
Thus, 10000 hectares of grasslands, tropical forests, cerrado savannah and wetlands are protected from the grazing and annual burning carried out for agricultural purposes that is rampant on all the lands in the region.
In addition, other actions are carried out:
– Creation of local jobs to monitor the reserve
– Public education campaign
– Installation of nesting boxes for blue-throated macaws
– Economic enhancement of the reserve through the development of ecotourism
Since the creation of the reserve, many species have returned to these lands!
We are pleased to support these actions since 2022.
