Cervicapra antelope
These elegant antelopes are among the only ones to show a variation in colour between the females and the young, which are light in colour, and the males, whose upper parts gradually darken to dark brown or even black. The latter also have long, ringed and spiral horns.
In case of danger, the whole group jumps upwards, then gallops away. These antelopes are also fast, being able to run at 80 km/h for several kilometres!
Previously abundant, the cervical antelopes have suffered greatly from hunting for their meat and trophies. Today, it is the disappearance of their habitat for livestock and agriculture and poaching that threatens them.
At La Barben, they live in a vast Asian plain, in the company of nilgauts and fallow deer.
