The maki cattas are lemurs, a group of primates found in Madagascar. In addition to their characteristic position during their “sunbathing”, they are known for their long ringed tail, which serves as a pendulum when moving through the trees with agility. It is the only lemur species to be partially terrestrial, the other species living mainly in trees. Peculiarly, they live in large groups, dominated by females! From birth, the single calf climbs on its mother’s back, clinging to her mother’s fur.
Like all lemurs, they are particularly threatened by forest destruction, hunting and animal trafficking. There are less than 2500 of them left in the wild!

In the park lives a whole group of maki cattas, which share a vast tree-lined aviary with the black and white lemur, another species of lemur.
