Pinched tamarinds – Proyecto titi Foundation
Found only in certain forests in Colombia, pinched tamarins are Critically Endangered: only 7000 of them remain!
The reasons: deforestation (only 1% of their original forests remain) and captures for the trafficking of “pets”.
The Proyecto Titi Foundation does comprehensive work for their protection, through different axes:
– Research: better understanding of this species and its needs is fundamental in order to better protect it
– Environmental education: to make people understand that pinched tamarins are not pets, and to encourage the protection of the forests where they live
– Helping communities: generating sustainable income, so that communities use less and better forest products (wood, etc.)
– the protection of forests: creation of protected areas, plantations, etc.
We have been pleased to support this program since 2014.
