Ciconia ciconia
The symbol of Alsace
This stork is recognizable by its white plumage, black wingtips, and long orange bill. It is not afraid to cohabit with humans, and is found in wetlands, crops and pastures, even in urban areas! It hunts small animals with its beak, which is also used to communicate by snapping!
This species almost disappeared from France in the 1970s, a victim of the drying up of wetlands and the intensification of agriculture. But thanks to protective measures and reintroductions, there are now more than 2500 pairs in France!
It is a group of 4 storks that you will be able to discover, in their aviary… and in the presentation of birds in flight “The World of Birds”.
