On November 1, 2017, Matombu, the thirtieth giraffe born at La Barben Zoo, was born!
This is the first calf of Hadiza, a young female aged 7.
As you can see, with giraffes, the bet is impressive because it is done standing up: the little one falls 2 meters! But it is done without difficulty, and the newborn is up a few dozen minutes later…
After spending the first few days in the shelter and warmth of their building, mother and calf have now joined the group of giraffes, and you can discover them during your visit, if the weather is mild enough: giraffes are indeed animals sensitive to the cold, if necessary they stay in their heated building!
