Wonderful news: the birth of three red pandas!
Ralph and Upendra have been the proud parents of three little ones since June 25, 2022.
Upendra, who arrived last year from the “Achener Tierpark Euregiozoo” in Germany, takes wonderful care of her little protégés.
When they are born, red pandas have their eyes closed. They don’t open them until the third week, when they also start to make themselves heard and move their limbs. The first few days, they measure only about twenty centimeters and weigh a little more than 100 grams. They don’t show their final red coat until they are two months old. In the third month, you will be able to see them venturing outside the nest. They will reach their final size at 1 year old.
This birth is wonderful news for this species classified as “Endangered” by the IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature. To protect it, the red panda is part of a European Breeding Program. It is in this context that we welcome Ralph and Upendra. To date, only 2,500 adult red pandas live in their natural environment. We are happy to participate in their conservation by welcoming this beautiful birth!
