Little meerkats!

Two small females were born on June 22nd. They spent their first three weeks in the shelter of the galleries of their enclosure, pampered and protected by their mother but also by all the members of the clan. This small mammal is one of the most social carnivores and this is particularly evident around the care of the young. Even if the mother takes care of her young, other females can serve as nannies and watch over the young. Some are even able to produce milk to feed the latter, in the temporary absence of the mother. These are often young females who have lost their young, or even none at all!
The whole group here is very attentive to the two young people, who now follow the adults in all their activities: foraging, digging galleries, surveillance (we then see these “mini-sentinels” imitating the adults)… At the slightest cry of alarm from the sentinel, the little ones are immediately taken to safety, until the supposed danger recedes!

In short, it is a clan of meerkats in full effervescence that you will be able to observe, with these two little females who, between exploration and play phases, take little naps, under the benevolent gaze of their elders!
