4 fennec cubs (3 females and one male) were born on March 29, 2019!
The small fennecs weigh between 30 and 40 gr at birth. In the wild, they only start to emerge from the burrow at the age of one month… They grow quickly and reach their adult size around 4 months.
This is the first litter of a pair of fennecs with a particular history, since both the father and the mother come from seizures. Many of the fennecs we have hosted are from depots by the Customs or the SPA of Marseille. Unfortunately, there is a lot of traffic around this species and we of course alert our visitors to this painful phenomenon: we must not give in to the temptation to have this animal at home. Far too many fennecs are still captured in the wild (in the countries of North Africa) to be sold to people who want to “treat themselves”… illegally, and thus leading to the scarcity of fennecs in the wild.
