A dryland tortoise
A herbivore, the Greek tortoise lives in scrub, dunes, the Atlas Mountains, but also in pine forests and other dry forests. It is particularly adapted to these arid, hibernating and/or summering habitats in order to withstand extreme temperatures.
Often brought back illegally as a souvenir of Morocco by tourists, it dies, while it disappears from the landscapes of North Africa!
In the park, you can observe them in the aviary of the scarlet ibises, except in the cold season: from October to April, they hibernate, buried in the earth…
